Community leaders were told the results of a regeneration survey sent out to Cheadle residents this summer in a meeting with Staffordshire Moorlands District Councillors (SMDC) last Wednesday (December 15). The Cheadle Stakeholder Panel which includes SMDC councillors and officers, as well as Cheadle Town Council members and others, held a virtual meeting to further discuss regenerations plans for the town.

A town hospital is set to remain open over the winter months to be used as a back-up for a possible surge in patients in the area. Cheadle Hospital has remained open since health chiefs decided, early last year, that the Royal Walk site will be “repurposed.”

Town councillors have unanimously voted to save the area’s hospital building. Cheadle Hospital is an ‘option’ for demolition in the ongoing Cheadle Town Centre Projects (CTCP) which is set to be carried out by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC).

An NHS Trust has thanked volunteers who have taken part in what has become a successful Covid-19 vaccine trial. The trial, which involved 500 people, was carried out at Cheadle Hospital.

No decision on the future of a community hospital in the Moorlands has been made yet but talks are taking place with regards to it possibly being part of a joint development in a town centre. In January of this year we reported that Cheadle Hospital was set to be “repurposed” after medical authorities voted on future health and social care community-based services in the area.

Beds at a Moorlands town hospital are set to re-open – but only temporarily while works are carried out at another hospital in the county. The news that Cheadle Hospital is being temporarily re-opened comes as “essential maintenance work” is set to be carried out at Haywood Hospital.

A TOWN’S community hospital is set to be used to help care for coronavirus patients – if all the beds at a city hospital are filled. The news that beds at both Cheadle and Leek community hospitals in the Moorlands could be re-opened to help with the current battle with Covid-19, comes after many months of campaigning by various groups for the community hospitals to remain open. In a statement made yesterday, Tuesday, April 14, a spokesman for the University Hospital of North Midlands (UHNM), told the Times & Echo: “UHNM is working with health and social care partners to set up an extension of its hospital care provision to manage its Covid-19 response within hospitals across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

A COMMUNITY leader in a Moorlands town is backing a campaign groups’ plea for community hospital beds to be re-opened during the current coronavirus outbreak. The North Staffs Pensioners’ Convention (NSPC) is urging NHS bosses to consider re-opening up beds at a number of community hospitals, including those at Cheadle Hospital, to help in the fight against the coronavirus. And Cheadle councillor Ron Locker, who is a member of the Cheadle Hospital Action Group, is backing the association members in their campaign.

TOWN councillors have voiced their thoughts on the status of a hospital in the Moorlands after medical authorities voted on the future of health and social community-based services in the area last Tuesday evening (January 20). The Times and Echo reported last week that members of the North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Groups’ Governing Bodies (CCGs) voted in favour of an Integrated Care Hub 'option' that stated Cheadle Hospital would be “repurposed” with a new build set to be constructed at Leek Hospital. After the meeting, Marcus Warnes, Accountable Officer for North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent CCGs, told the Times and Echo: “Cheadle sits within the Local Plan, has a population of 13,000 and has three GP practices within the Cheadle borough.

THE FUTURE of health services in the Moorlands is set to be decided upon this week – a decision which involves Cheadle Hospital. NHS Clinical Commissioners are set to make a decision on the ‘Future of Local Health Services’ in North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent at a public meeting to be held in Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow. The Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) in North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are holding the Extra-Ordinary Governing Body Meeting from 2pm until 5pm on Tuesday, January 21 at the Moat House Hotel in Stoke-on-Trent.

COUNCILLORS are set to hear from the authority behind moves to potentially close Cheadle Hospital. Accountable officer for North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Marcus Warnes, will attend a meeting of Cheadle Town Council on Monday. The meeting comes ahead of a public workshop at The Manor in Cheadle next month.

A REGENERATION plan for Cheadle which was set to include elderly care facilities, a strategy for Cheadle Hospital and improvements to the town centre appears to have dwindled to nothing. Cheadle Town Council entered into partnership with Staffordshire County Council (SCC) and Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) four years ago in a bid to provide a comprehensive plan for the town. The 'Cheadle Town Deal' was set to link in with the Cheadle Masterplan and bring together input from all three councils serving the area.
