A community run library in the Moorlands is appealing for more volunteers, in order to increase the opening hours, now shelf browsing and PC usage has resumed. And to help the appeal by Cheadle’s Community Library, some of its current volunteers have told us why they love volunteering at the community facility.

A new charity shop has opened up in a Moorlands town. Luosko German Shepherd Dog Rescue, which has a rescue centre in Cheadle, has opened its charity shop in the town centre.

A council has stated that it is “spending time fully considering the wider impact of Covid-19 on our businesses and our towns” before it spends money which has been allocated by the Government to help re-open high streets.

A GROUP of residents who help keep their town clean by picking up litter are scheduled to re-start it’s monthly meets again soon. The Cheadle Moorlands Litter Pickers is set to meet on Sunday (February 2) at 10am for the first time this year after taking a short break over winter and the group of volunteers is inviting residents down to assist in the deed. The initiative started in August 2018 with still current members meeting on the first Sunday of every month outside Bargain Booze, located on High Street, before travelling around town to pick up items of waste left in public spaces.

A NEW RESTAURANT could be coming to a town centre, should planning permission be granted. Applicant Christopher Ward, who was born and raised in Cheadle for 22 years, is requesting to transform a former office in the Moorlands town into a “casual dining site.”

A NUMBER of businesses in Cheadle high street are either closing or relocating. New beginnings, expansion, and moving trading to the world wide web are among the reasons for a number of businesses in Cheadle which are either closing or relocating from High Street. Sue Tighe, the owner of Crafty Urchins at 76 High Street, has decided to soon call it a day on her shop in Cheadle's High Street.

THE FUTURE of a Cheadle town centre has been debated at length by representatives from two councils. Cheadle Town Council's meeting on Monday (February 18) included a presentation by the leader of Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Councillor Sybil Ralphs regarding SMDC's Growth Strategy for Cheadle, as well as the district council's bid to the Government for a share of the £675 million Future High Street Fund.

GOVERNMENT funding aimed at boosting high streets could be channelled into Cheadle, after it was revealed almost 20 per cent of shops in the town are unused. Cabinet members at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) will discuss a report on the Town Centre Regeneration and Investment Programme at a meeting next week. The report recommends SMDC apply for cash from the government's £675million Future High Street Fund to invest in Cheadle.
