Concern has been raised regarding “poor signage” which has been put in place to promote a free car parking scheme. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) is currently operating a three hours free parking scheme on all district council car parks across the Moorlands including those in Cheadle.

Parking enforcement officers are returning to monitor car parks in Cheadle and across the Moorlands as lockdown restrictions ease. Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) retained parking charges throughout the lock down, although enforcement officers were not deployed to patrol car parks. The decision caused some concern over potential spread of the virus through people using pay machines on car parks. Many councils made parking free for people to undertake essential journeys quickly, with pay machines covered to discourage anyone touching them.

Parking charges remain in place at car parks across the Moorlands in a bid to ‘discourage social gatherings,’ a council has said. We reported last week that concerns had been raised over the potential spread of coronavirus via the use of pay machines on car parks after Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) refused to suspend charges. But a council spokesman has since confirmed the aim was to stop people visiting town centres.
