A town council incurred a loss of more than £3,500 after they had to cancel a large scale community event due to bad weather recently. Leek Town Council had set to help the town celebrate HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with an event coinciding with their annual Party in the Park on Sunday, June 5.

An amateur theatre group has cancelled a planned show for a second time. Leek Musical Theatre has decided to cancel their presenting of the smash-hit musical ‘Sister Act’ for a second time – due to the pandemic.

A Moorlands village will not be hosting a Christmas lights switch-on event this year after organisers deemed the traditional get-together too risky with cases of Covid-19 in the area on the rise. The decision about the Tean event, which had been set to take place this coming weekend, was made at an Events Committee Meeting chaired by Checkley Parish Councillor Alan Hulme on Thursday (November 18) evening.

A large scale agricultural show in the Moorlands has been cancelled – just three weeks before it was set to take place. Last year’s Leek & District Show was cancelled due to the pandemic, but it had been hoped, with the further easing of restrictions by the Government, that this year’s show could go ahead at it’s regular venue of Birchall Playing Fields in Leek on Saturday, July 31.

A LARGE scale creative event has been cancelled amid the current coronavirus situation. This year’s Cheadle Arts Festival had set to take place during the month of June, and plans were in place for an enhanced programme to previous years including: an Open Arts Exhibition, a High Street Gallery, and Arts & Crafts Market, a host of participation and learning events, and a full ‘fringe programme of events, to name but a few. However, the volunteer organising team has now taken the difficult decision to cancel the creative extravaganza due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
