A NEW pedestrian crossing is set to be installed on a frequently-used road to help members of the community cross safely after a resident launched a petition campaigning for traffic calming measures. It has been confirmed by Staffordshire County councillor David Brookes that a crossing will be put in place on Bridge Street in Uttoxeter during the next financial year with a view to making further road improvements within the town. ALMOST 200 people have signed a petition demanding a pedestrian crossing on a busy road in Uttoxeter. We reported in December that Chamberlain Close resident Jeff Bate had started a petition calling for a pedestrian crossing, and traffic calming measures, in Bridge Street because of his concerns about the safety of people crossing Bridge Street due to “the increased level of traffic and poor visibility along the road.” Mr Bate has now gained support from a further 179 residents in his bid to encourage Staffordshire County Council to listen to his concerns.
