Tribute to much-loved character Arthur

A VILLAGE church was packed for the funeral of a popular businessman who sadly passed away recently. The funeral of Arthur Poyser, of Blythe Bridge, took place at St Peter's Church in Forsbrook on Monday, April 15. He had passed away suddenly but peacefully on March 19, aged 86. Arthur was the devoted husband of Millie, much loved dad of Ann and Mark, respected and loved father-in-law of Steve and Tracey and a special grandad, brother-in-law and uncle, who will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.

POLICE are investigating a complaint of assault following an incident in a Moorlands village. The incident took place on Sunday, May 19, at around 5.15pm in the village of Blythe Bridge. A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “Officers are investigating a complaint of assault following a call at around 5.15pm on Sunday, May 19.

RIVER RUBBISH ‘APPALLS’ GOVERNMENT AGENCY

AN ENVIRONMENT organisation is 'appalled' that rubbish has been dumped in a Moorlands river. Last week, we reported that Blythe Bridge residents Peter North, and his wife Janette, had attended the Forsbrook Parish Council's April meeting to air their concerns about rubbish which had been dumped in the River Blithe. This week, the Environment Agency has confirmed that they have received reports of the dumped rubbish, which according to Mr North, has since been added to and that a fence along a pathway which leads to the river has now also been damaged.

“The Post Office has dropped a clanger here”

COMMUNITY leaders have slated the relocation of a village post office. Thursday, March 21 saw the Blythe Bridge Post Office reopen within the Forsbrook Spar in Cheadle Road after being relocated from it's previous venue in Uttoxeter Road in Blythe Bridge. The move means that post office customers in the area can benefit from increased opening times, however members of Forsbrook Parish Council have slated the move, stating their concerns over queues for post office customers along with increased parked cars in the area of the Spar shop.

Mud pie fun at nursery

YOUNGSTERS at a village nursery have been getting outdoors and enjoying making 'mud pies' this Spring. Mud, grass, fairy soup, leaves, flowers and water are just some of the ingredients which the children at Blythe Bridge Day Nursery have been using to have fun in making 'mud pies'. Nursery manager Jemma Hubbard said: “We try to get outdoors as much as possible at Blythe Bridge Day Nursery as we feel this is important for the children.

Village church targeted by vandals

MEMBERS of a Moorlands village community are appealing for help in finding the vandals who have spray painted graffiti on their parish church. The incident happened at St Peter's Church in Blythe Bridge overnight on Thursday, March 21 and Friday, March 22. The vandals spray painted the graffiti onto the gable end of St Peter's Church which is situated in Cheadle Road.

Kind-hearted Joe plans trip to Zambia

A MOORLANDS student is embarking on a volunteering trip to South Africa this year. Joe Bailey, aged 16 of Dilhorne, will be travelling to Zambia in the summer to help build eco-shelters and also teach maths to South African children. Joe is taking the trip as part of the organisation 'African Impact', which is based in South Africa. He will be travelling out on June 30 and returning on July 15.

Biker killed in tragic crash

A MOTORCYCLIST has sadly passed away after being involved in a road traffic collision in the Moorlands. Martin Baxter, aged 50 from Stoke-on-Trent, died on the morning of Saturday, January 12 at Royal Stoke University Hospital after he and his motorbike were involved in a road traffic collision in Draycott, near Blythe Bridge, the previous evening.

Forsbrook Parish Council is running the public consultation following cuts made by Staffordshire County Council to bus services in Forsbrook. The parish council is now asking residents to tell them when and where they would like bus services to be operate through Forsbrook.
