Speed reduction for much-used road

A frequently used road in the Moorlands is set for an extended speed limit reduction. Ashbourne Road in Cheadle is used by commuters every day and soon they could be required to limit their speed to 30 miles-per-hour along another 250-metre section of the road.

Concern over “very shoddy repair” to pavement

A councillor has stated that he thinks that repair work to a pavement in Leek town centre is “shoddy.” We reported earlier this month that Leek Town councillor Stephen Wales had initially raised concern about the pavement, on the junction with Ashbourne Road and Haywood Street in Leek, being in need of repair.

Repairs set to make town centre area safe

A county council has confirmed that road and pavement repairs are set to take place to make an area within a Moorlands town centre safe. The confirmation from Staffordshire County Council regarding the Ashbourne Road and Haywood Street junction in Leek, where kerb stones and pavement slabs have been damaged, comes after Leek Town councillor Stephen Wales has written to the highways department at the county council.

A public house in the Moorlands, which dated back to at least 1837, has been demolished. The former public house of The Flying Horse on Ashbourne Road in Leek has been completely demolished to make way for housing.

Community leaders urge action over roundabout

Community leaders have raised concerns regarding a section of road in their town which has become perilous for commuters and pedestrians. Members of Cheadle Town Council have stated that they have become increasingly concerned about the state of the mini-roundabout on the A522 that links with Ashbourne Road outside the Lamplighter pub in Cheadle.

Public meeting to focus on closure of community response post

A TOWN COUNCIL will be holding a public meeting this week following West Midlands Ambulance Service’s (WMAS) announcement that a community response post is scheduled to be closed down. The Times and Echo reported last month that the WMAS had revealed that it’s response post on Ashbourne Road in Cheadle is to shut by the end of March. Last week, a spokesperson for WMAS told the Times and Echo that now “the rapid response vehicle will be taken out of Cheadle by the end of January.”
