Police are warning people across the Moorlands and East Staffordshire to ensure their properties are secure after four burglaries where people have entered via an unlocked door occurred in a matter of hours. The incidents, in Coppenhall and Bradley, both near Stafford, Codsall, and Kingsley Holt, near Cheadle, all happened yesterday on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 18.

Cheryl Smith, a nurse who lives in Alton, is appealing for donations so her family can purchase her grandson, seven-year-old Amir, a suitable outdoor sensory room that will allow him to have a safe space.

Alike to so many hair salons across the country, The Old Stables Hairdressing Salon in Alton re-opened its doors to clients on Saturday (July 4). However, the team at the family run business have gone above and beyond by, not only re-opening their actual salon, but also setting up a temporary outdoor salon for people who may not feel comfortable about going into the indoor salon – with the current coronavirus situation.

FAMILY PAY RESPECTS TO “LOVEABLE ROGUE” BILL

THE FAMILY of a Moorlands man who recently passed away have paid tribute to him and his legacy. Bill Burton from Alton, also affectionately known as 'The Baron', passed away on September 19, aged 91 and was laid to rest at St Leonard's Church in Bradley, next to a number of his late family members on Wednesday, October 16. Born on July 28, 1928 at New Farm in Bradley, Bill attended a private school in Denstone before earning a scholarship to study at Thomas Alleyne's High School in Uttoxeter.

Pub of the season for community pub

A VILLAGE pub, which is owned by the community, has won an award. The White Hart in Alton has been presented with the Spring Pub of the Season award by the Uttoxeter and District sub branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). Each quarter Uttoxeter and District CAMRA recognise a pub in the area which has been “consistently meeting high standards and receiving good beer scores.”

Thrillseekers set for treat as new Towers ride delivers ‘unique’ experience

THE new Wicker Man ride at Alton Towers opens to the public for the first time on Saturday. The ground-breaking £16 million attraction is the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK for more than 20 years. Development work on the ride, which stands almost 60 feet tall, has taken four years to complete and involved more than 1,000 workers.
