“We failed to live up to the high standards we set ourselves”

A popular tourist destination in the Moorlands has admitted that it has “failed to live up to the high standards we set ourselves.” The statement from Alton Towers came after sisters Hannah and Becky Cheetham, from Manchester, spoke of their concerns about their recent visit to the resort with regards to issues surrounding poor ride accessibility as well as how some staff members were “discriminatory and ignorant” towards Hannah, who has Cerebral Palsy.

New event and attractions at Alton Towers

Alton Towers Resort has announced more details about its brand-new event ‘Oktoberfest’ and confirmed two new attractions will be revealed at their annual spooktacular 'Scarefest.' From Friday, September 11 to Sunday, October 4, entertainment-led festival ‘Oktoberfest’ will take place each afternoon and include live acts, food and drink with a German twist, as well as the chance to enjoy a selection of the park’s rollercoasters and family attractions into the evening.

Popular Moorlands theme park to re-open on July 4

Following Prime Minister Boris Johnson's announcement of further easing of restrictions during the coronavirus situation, Alton Towers has confirmed that it will be re-opening its theme park as of July 4. The announcement follows the successful opening of the Alton Towers Gardens on June 6 and is in line with the UK Government’s latest guidance on the reopening of visitor attractions and hospitality businesses.

Staff and visitors assessed after waterpark closed

A POPULAR waterpark in the Moorlands has temporarily closed this week after staff and visitors reported irritation to their eyes and throat. The incident happened at Alton Towers Resort at around 1pm on Monday (March 2). A total of 39 people - 33 adults and six children – were assessed by medical staff while an investigation “focusing on air quality” was carried out by Staffordshire Fire & Rescue.

New attractions to focus on Walliams’ characters

A THEME park in the Moorlands has teamed up with a best-selling author and television comedian to start on a project that will see his book characters come to life across the park in Spring 2020. Alton Towers Resort has announced it has partnered up with children's writer David Walliams to incorporate the themes of many of the stories he has written for youngsters over the past few years. The company revealed that the project would be around the Cloud Cuckoo Land area of the theme park but is keeping it's cards close to it's chest on any further information.

A STAFFORDSHIRE Moorlands tourist attraction is subject to be a part of a £6 billion takeover deal. The board of directors of Alton Towers owners' Merlin Entertainment has recommended an offer from Berkeley Bidco Limited to Merlin´s shareholders. Berkeley Bidco Limited is an entity owned by a consortium comprising Kirkbi Invest A/S, funds advised by Blackstone Core Equity Advisors L.L.C., and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board as co-investor.

THRILL-seekers who share a name with an infamous Staffordshire witch can get half price entry to Alton Towers for Staffordshire Day. The notorious Molly Leigh features in the resorts new Dungeon attraction and anyone called Molly or Lee can enter the park half-price this weekend. All guests visiting the theme park during Staffordshire Day celebrations will also be in with the chance of receiving some free treats, from ice-creams to rollercoaster fastracks.

Oompa-lump of cash raised for charity

AN auction of quirky Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride theming, staged by Alton Towers, has attracted thousands of bids and raised over £10,700 for charity. The Oompa-lump sum of cash was raised by Alton Towers Resort as it auctioned off items from its former Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ride to make way for its latest attraction, the Alton Towers Dungeon, which opens next month. Both theme park and Roald Dahl fans jumped at the chance to get their hands on some golden memorabilia, raising £10,781, which will now be split between two UK charities.

Spooktacular fun at Scarefest

LIKE many living in the area around Alton Towers, I know the park well, having worked there as a teenager and spent many hours being swung upside down and roundabout on rides and rollercoasters big and small, writes Nat Wakefield. While the kids have had season passes this summer, the most I've seen of the resort has been the pick-up point for the many times I've been parent taxi during the holidays. But this weekend, I got to join in the fun and scare myself silly for the first time in ages.

Thrillseekers set for treat as new Towers ride delivers ‘unique’ experience

THE new Wicker Man ride at Alton Towers opens to the public for the first time on Saturday. The ground-breaking £16 million attraction is the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK for more than 20 years. Development work on the ride, which stands almost 60 feet tall, has taken four years to complete and involved more than 1,000 workers. Junior reporter and social media expert Hattie Harrison was the 'chosen one' when she grabbed a sneak preview – and the first ride on the Wicker Man - last week.
