A NEW forum set to drive sustainable change in Uttoxeter has been announced by The Globe Foundation. Launched in response to concern over the Uttoxeter Master Plan, The Sustainable Uttoxeter Network aims to provide a voice for the community.
Volunteers are being sought to join the new forum’s steering committee. The forum will examine a variety of issues including renewable technology, eco-tourism and planning. The project has been in the pipeline for some time, but its launch was brought forward in a bid to capture ideas and opinions on the future of the town.
Kate Copeland is Director at The Globe Foundation. She said: “The foundation has launched Sustainable Uttoxeter, a forum to help drive sustainable change and provide a voice for the community to help shape the future of our town. Following the public concern about the recent Uttoxeter Masterplan, the forum will provide a constructive outlet for ideas and solutions for residents, businesses, Government and community groups.
“The forum will provide a platform to allow all those with an interest in town to come together to combine solutions, resources and activities to create a robust plan for the future with deliverable actions that we can all input into. “he forum will explore a range of issues from waste and recycling to renewable technologies to eco-tourism, to create a plan that supports a bustling and vibrant Uttoxeter, from the town centre to more rural amenities.
“The main focus is on what we can do as a community, whether from our own resources at The Globe Foundation, amongst volunteers, business signatories or with some help from outside support.
“In some cases the action will have to come mainly from agencies, companies or government, so no doubt some of the actions in the plan will be to lobby others. The most important part of the project will be support and collaborate with existing community groups and organisations, which thankfully, Uttoxeter has a thriving network of. The Sustainable Uttoxeter Network is currently looking for Steering Committee members with a passion for the local area and for volunteers that can help support the project work.
“If you would like to get involved, please register your interest via sustainableuttoxeter.org.uk.”
