Cheadle Academy a Champion for National Citizen Service
A THIRD of GCSE students at The Cheadle Academy have signed up to complete their National Citizen Service (NCS) over the summer.
The NCS programme is a 2-4 week programme which takes place outside of term-time and offers youngsters a range of experiences to help them contribute to their community.
At Cheadle Academy, 39 students in Year 11 will be completing their NCS over the summer, which has seen the school achieve Champion School status for the programme.
Student Emily Harris, 15, from Cheadle, said: “I cannot wait, this is going to be so exciting and a brilliant way to do something that will be really positive for our local community.”
Cheadle Academy has supported the NCS scheme since its launch and staff along with former students have gone on to become leaders of NCS programmes themselves.
The programmes are split into three distinct phases.
The first sees students staying at an outdoor activity centre, while in phase two, they are reunited with the group, and in a uni-style environment, students will explore ways to develop life skills like confidence, leadership and communication.
The third phase will see them deliver a social action project.
Bolstered by the fun and inspiration from the first two sections, students are asked to plan, fundraise and make a difference.
All the students taking part will not only reap personal benefits but take pride in the knowledge that they are contributing to their local community.
Nathan Seabridge, also 15 and from Cheadle, added: “I think we will enjoy experiences that will benefit us as we journey through the Sixth Form College and to University – this is going to be really invaluable.”
