A SCHOOL choir is continuing to raise funds for a hospice. The Cheadle Academy Sixth Form Choir began singing together in supermarkets during the festive period of 2017, following the sad death of their teacher Craig Beverley who passed away in October 2016. Since then they have raised thousands for the Dougie Mac charity which supported Craig and his family before he passed away after losing his battle with cancer.
The choir’s recent concert on July 2 raised a total of £1,800, while their singing session at Morrisons recently raised a further £405 bringing their current total, which has been raised by the choir for Dougie Mac, to an amazing £19,600.
Also recently, the choir performed at the Vice Chancellor’s Ball at Staffordshire University to a standing ovation.
Year 10 students at the academy have been so inspired by the work of the sixth formers that they too have now created their own fundraising project for Dougie Mac, with Year 10 Health and Social Care students and Year 12 girls, along with female teachers, recently completing the Dougie Mac Moonlight Walk, raising over £1,200.
The next step for the sixth form choir is to release their single which they recorded earlier in the year and which students at Staffordshire University have been helping to produce.
Cheadle Academy teacher Laura Allsopp said: “Staffordshire University have finished mixing their song, ‘My Oh My’ and Luke Scott from Staffs Uni has visited us to discuss a marketing campaign.
“The plan is a release for October half term holidays.”
