A recently launched new community initiative has been a resounding success.
The Cheadle Toy Bank Appeal was set up by Cheadle councillors Jamie Evans and Liz Whitehouse in October to helpmake sure vulnerable children in the area have a good Christmas this year.
The kind-hearted initiative has been such a success with more than 1,000 presents being donated to the cause.
And the team behind the Cheadle Toy Bank have been out and about delivering all the festively wrapped goodies to schools and other organisations across the area. And more deliveries are to be carried out this week – with the help of Father Christmas himself.
Jamie told the Times & Echo this week: “I would like to say that there is around 1,300 presents but there could be more.
“We have also received cash donations such as the Cheadle SMU FC donated £1,000 which we used to purchase presents from local shops which helped us with the teenagers as that’s where we were struggling for donations.
“We also had £300 from councillor Ian Plant’s Mayor’s fund and all of the Deputy Mayor’s £200 from councillor Gary Bentley.
“We had another £80 in donations also from family and friends which helped us massively also.
“We have started deliveries at schools and will be delivering further all over the week with the help from the CarnivalCommittee who are helping us deliver some on Saturday using their Santa’s Sleigh.
“We can not thank everyone enough for all their support with the Cheadle Toy Bank Appeal.”
