A SCHOOLGIRL from the Moorlands has made it through to the next round of a national television singing competition for children. Joslyn Plant from Cheadle appeared on The Voice Kids UK 2019 on Saturday June 29, screened on ITV. The 11-year-old performed “Run” by Snow Patrol with judges Danny Jones of McFly and solo artist Pixie Lott both turning their chairs after being impressed by what they heard.
Joslyn told the Times and Echo: “It was absolutely amazing.
“When they turned I was just shocked.
“It was overwhelming because I wasn’t used to being in that situation before.
“It’s probably the biggest thing I’ve done.”
Watched on by Mum, Dad, Nan and her older brothers, Joslyn chose Danny as her mentor because she promised herself she would “pick the person that turned around first.”
The under-16’s Open Mic UK 2017 and Pre-Teens Teenstar 2018 winner, who attends Painsley Catholic College, said her favourite school subjects are music, English and history.
When asked about her career goals, Joslyn said: “I want to have a musical career, but I don’t mind which musical career.
“Just as long as it’s doing something that I like.”
Mum Michelle said she is “extremely proud” of her daughter who now has nearly 340,000 views of her performance on the television show’s official YouTube channel.
Michelle said: “Joslyn’s been entering in competitions since she was eight.
“She won Pre-Teens Teenstar in January 2018 and things have taken a turn for the better.
“She’s just gone from strength to strength.”
“It’s really nice that other people are recognising her and appreciating her talent.”
Michelle used to be part of the Cheadle Amateur Theatre Society, which is where Joslyn was first introduced to music after watching her mother in numerous pantomimes and plays.
Joslyn is set to appear on the first week of the judges battle round, where singers chosen by each member of the panel face each other in a sing-off. This will be broadcast on ITV this Saturday, July 13 at 8pm.
