A youth competition which was set to take place at the weekend in the Moorlands was postponed due to the wet weather at the weekend. The first ever Cheadle Skate Trix Tournament was set to take place at the Tean Road recreation Ground in Cheadle on Saturday (August 21) but the organisers, which included Cheadle Town Council in conjunction with teenager Lewis Hide, decided to cancel the event on safety grounds due to downpours of rain at the weekend.

It is hoped – weather permitting again – that the competition will now take place this coming Saturday (August 28).

Lewis said: “It’s a shame it rained, the ramps were flooded, we can’t ride on the wet.

I’ve already rescheduled for this Saturday and promoted this via my social media platforms to get the word out.”

Annie Devereux, who is a volunteer on the Cheadle Town Council’s Community Reassurance programme which is currently running at the Tean Road Rec, said: “The young people were so much looking forward to this tournament, even though they were disappointed on the day, their excitement has returned.

I’ve really gotten to know the community since July. I enjoy working in the park and feeling like I am making a positive contribution to my home town.”

Cheadle Skate Trix Tournament will start on Saturday (August 28) – weather permitting – at 3pm.

Participants are being encouraged to wear helmets and protective pads, and St John’s Ambulance will be in attendance during the event.

Cheadle Town Mayor Sue Walley will be presenting medals to the winners, medals which she has paid for out of her Mayor’s Allowance.
