Leek Musical Theatre has decided to cancel their presenting of the smash-hit musical ‘Sister Act’ for a second time – due to the pandemic.
The company had set to present the all-singing show back in April 2020 but had to cancel due to Covid restrictions. They had then aimed to present their performances of the show this coming April, but have now taken the decision to cancel once again.
A spokesman for Leek Musical Theatre said: “Due to the ongoing uncertainty and for the safety of all of our cast and crew, it is with very heavy hearts that we are announcing the cancellation of our upcoming production of Sister Act.
“As most of you will know, we were forced to cancel our original production of Sister Act in April 2020 just three weeks before we were due to hit the stage.
“We have continued to postpone our production for the last two years and finally, after a glimmer of hope towards the end of last year, we were finally able to begin rehearsals again.
“Sadly, things have once again been brought to a halt and despite our best efforts to stage the show this April, it has sadly proven impossible.”
They added: “Our committee have been forced to make the painfully difficult decision to cancel Sister Act rather than further trying to postpone the show.
“Despite the gutting news, we are now trying to look forward to the future and we already have plans in the making for a summer concert which will hopefully take place this July and we have exciting news to share with you about our April 2023 production.
“Look out for further updates coming soon.
“Thank you all for your continued support throughout these difficult times and we very much hope to see you again this summer.”
