A COMMUNITY organisation will be hosting it's annual beer festival this weekend. This year's Uttoxeter Lions annual Beer Festival, which is now called Party on the Pitch, is on Friday, June 7 and Saturday, June 8 and the organisers are promising that it is set to be better than ever. The Friday entertainment features covers band ‘Play it again Sam’ and headlining is ‘Simply the Best’, a Tina Turner tribute act.
Saturday will see performances by Jason Callear, followed by Spinster Jones featuring Kim Harrison together with everyone’s favourite party band Upfront.
The extravaganza will take place at Oldfields Sports and Social Club with a bigger marquee to last year, and a bigger gin and prosecco bar.
The 24 real ales are brought in from as far afield as Cambridgeshire and Lancashire as well as neighbouring counties, giving a great variety of tastes and strengths ranging from 3.7 per cent session ales to Dark Ruby Mild at 6 per cent.
Some of the names listed are Funky Gibbon, Crazy like a Fox and Arizona described as ‘dry as a desert, refreshing as an oasis’.
There are 12 ciders of varying strengths from dry through to sweet perrys.
Simon Smith, the Lions’ ‘Ticket Master’ said: “I would urge everyone to get their tickets in advance as we are limited for licensing and supply reasons.
“Although we like to empty all the barrels by the end of the event we need to keep a good choice for the Saturday customer for as long as possible.”
Tickets cost £6.50 for each night or £10 for the two nights bought together. They are available online at www.uttoxeterbeerfestival.co.uk or via the club’s Facebook page, from Oldfields Club on Wednesdays, Fridays and the weekend, Lions members in the Maltings on Saturday or call Simon on 07587 002979.
Simon added: “Any unsold tickets will be on the door each night but when they’re gone they’re gone.”
Proceeds from the beer festival are set to go towards funding the annual Prostate Cancer Screening sessions.
This year’s session takes place tomorrow – Thursday, June 6 from 6pm until 8.30pm in the marquee at Oldfields Club before the beer festival.
Lions screening organiser Steve Shields said: “Numbers last year exceeded expectations but we are geared this time for a similar increase.
“The queues were so long last year that a few people couldn’t wait but by using the marquee we will not have any space or time limitations.
“We have more phlebotomists too, and are very grateful for their support.
“Thanks also go to our principal sponsor RBA Wealth Management, Gold sponsor, JCB and Silver sponsor, Barrowhill Hall and all the sponsors of the barrels of beer.
“Although we advertise the tests as ‘free’, nothing is truly without cost and the average per test is £17, so we hope to receive donations on the night, really to ensure that we can run another event in 2020.”
The beer festival will run from 4pm until 11.30pm on Friday, with live music from 7pm; while on the Saturday the festival will run from 1pm until 11.30pm, with the live music from 3pm.
