CARNIVAL ORGANISERS GIFT OF CHARITY
CARNIVAL organisers put a smile on the faces of poorly children with a Christmas gift to a charity that’s close to their hearts.
Sackfuls of donated toys were left over from a fund-raising stall at the lights switch-on event in Cheadle.
So they were wrapped up and taken to the Donna Louise Hospice, where they’ll be handed out to sick children – many of whom have life-limiting illnesses.
Committee members Tim Cliffe and Wayne Durose visited the Trentham hospice on Saturday.
And it was a particularly poignant moment for Wayne, whose own son Harry died from a brain tumour aged just six several years ago.
Tim said: “Earlier this year, Elizabeth Titterton, who lives Tean, donated hundreds of toys to help the committee raise funds for the carnival.
“We sold some of them at the Christmas lights switch-on event, but had a lot left over and were wondering what to do with them.
“Wayne then came up with the idea of donating them to kids at Donna Louise who are having a pretty rough time.
“He lost his own son a few years ago, so it seemed like the right thing to do.”
