Scam warning after bogus call

A VILLAGER is urging people to be on their guard after nearly falling victim to a phone scam.

The Dilhorne resident was targeted by fraudsters last week and is now warning other people across the Moorlands about the con.

Police issued a warning about telephone scams on Tuesday last week, after reports of the crime from across the north of the county.

A villager in Dilhorne answered a call on Thursday, June 21 which turned out to be from bogus government officials.

“I was nearly sucked in,” the resident said. “It’s going round again and I just want people to be aware.

“They called me and said it was a government issue and I was to be awarded £3,750 and a courier would come and deliver it.

“But I had to issue a gift card of £375 which I would hand to the courier in exchange for the money as either cash or cheque.
