ROAD CLOSURE IN CHEADLE

'Ridiculous' diversion may drive motorists around the bend

A DIVERSION route which directs motorists on a 17-mile loop to get into and out of Cheadle has been branded ‘ridiculous’.
A half-mile stretch of Ashbourne Road, from the junction at Thorley Drive to the turning for Moss Lane, will be closed for five days from tomorrow (Thursday) to enable BT workers to clear a blocked duct.
And drivers will be directed on a route which takes almost 40 minutes to get from Ashbourne Road to Oakamoor Road.
The proposed diversion will take motorists back along the B5032 via Alton, Denstone and Quixhill to Ellastone, where they turn left for Wootton and on to Ramshorn.
They’re then directed to turn left at Ribden down Star Bank and then travel through Oakamoor before returning to Cheadle via the B5417, Oakamoor Road.
A road closure order will be in effect on Ashbourne Road near the junction with Moss Lane, from 9am on Thursday to 4pm on Monday even though signage at the site indicates the road will be closed from 9.30am to 3.30pm on each day.
