A PRIMARY school in the Moorlands is set to be awarded with a prestigious award. Cheadle Primary School will soon be presented with the Silver 'Rights Respecting School Award' by Unicef UK. Unicef is the world's leading organisation working for children and their rights, and the organisation's Rights Respecting Schools Award is granted to schools which show commitment to promoting and realising children's rights and encouraging adults, children and young people to respect the rights of others in school.
The Silver Award is given to schools which make excellent progress towards embedding the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into its ethos and curriculum.
There are more than 1,000 schools across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales that have achieved Silver and over 400 schools that have been awarded Gold, the next step up and highest accolade granted by Unicef.
The award recognises achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child at the heart of a school’s planning, polices and practise.
A Rights Respecting School is a community where children’s rights are learned, taught, practised, respected, protected and promoted.
A spokesman for Cheadle Primary School told the Times & Echo: “We are incredibly proud to be awarded Silver and it is a fantastic achievement for the school community.
“At Cheadle Primary School, we are proud to incorporate the convention into the very fabric of the school to enable us to improve every child’s well-being, encourage their talents and abilities, to realise each child’s potential and to equip each child to become rights-respecting citizens in their own right.”
