A mother and daughter who were nominated to receive a special reindeer experience at a Moorlands farm have expressed their joy at meeting the beautiful creatures, saying it “made our Christmas.”
Karen Mace and daughter Hollie, who live in Cheadle, were recently announced as the winners of a competition ran by Oakleys Farm who had asked social media users to nominate someone who deserved a festive treat this year.
A spokesperson for Oakleys Farm, which is situated near Dilhorne, told the Times and Echo: “We decided to set up a competition for someone who really deserves a magical experience after this year.
“We knew that Karen had to win, she definitely deserved it. It was a hard decision as we had some fantastic nominations.
“It was down to selection, Karen did also have the most nominations. She looks after Hollie but still supports all local businesses with her (Facebook) page and charities. It was lovely to meet them.”
After their initial scheduled visit had to be postponed due to rainy conditions, both Karen and Hollie visited the farm on Friday (December 18) and told the Times and Echo about how much they enjoyed the day.
“We had a lovely time,” Karen said. “Hollie was very shy and it was overwhelming for her. She saw all the Reindeers and she fed one and stroked one.
“She then saw the meerkats and also the two massive lovely camels and the dogs.
“The staff were lovely and took the time with her, telling us a bit about the animals. They also gave her a reindeer teddy.”
Karen added: “We had a lovely time and it has made our Christmas. So thank you to them and also those who nominated.”
