A RACECOURSE owner has welcomed changes that are planned to be made to train services by a rail company. East Midlands Railway said that alterations to the running of their Derby to Crewe line will be implemented – something that will impact Uttoxeter Railway Station which is synonymously important for visitors attending race days at Uttoxeter Racecourse, being only a few minutes walk from the sporting venue. A spokesperson for East Midlands Railway told the Times and Echo: “Over the next couple of months, we will be providing extra seats between Derby and Crewe on weekdays by introducing additional carriages allowing us to run longer trains.
“From December 2020, we propose to extend the Crewe-Stoke-Derby service through to Newark Castle with later weekday evening services.
“We will consult on the changes in the December 2021 timetable next year and looking into options to run earlier Sunday services.”
David MacDonald, Uttoxeter Racecourse Executive Director, told the Times and Echo of how he was pleased with the news.
He said: “I welcome the news that there will be improvements to the East Midlands train service through Uttoxeter and I met with Andrew Griffiths MP and Neil Grabham from East Midlands Trains on November 1 to discuss the improvements.
“Extra carriages will be great news as will a closer working relationship with EM trains so that we can allocate an appropriate service to each raceday.
“The biggest improvement however will be changes to the Sunday timetable which will allow racegoers to attend Sunday meetings by train.
“This change is unlikely before 2021 but we are keen to see it progress as it will make a huge difference to the town as well as the racecourse.”
