Police shake-up won’t affect cover in town, insists chief

A MAJOR shake-up of policing in Staffordshire will not be allowed to leave Cheadle without adequate cover, it was claimed this week.

Officers responding to emergencies in the town or outlying villages will start their shifts in Hanley from June 4 as part of a move to launch a central ‘hub’ in North Staffordshire.

But the police chief in charge of operations throughout the Moorlands has allayed concerns that the plan will reduce response times.

Inspector Mark Thorley addressed a meeting of Cheadle town council on Monday night.

He said: “Creating a central hub will enable us to use our resources more effectively across the area and no Local Policing Teams will be adversely affected.

“We are taking response officers out of Cheadle police station, but teams will continue to be deployed at locations in or around the town.
