Police release CCTV footage following distraction burglary

By timesecholife on in All News, Featured News

POLICE have released images of two people they would like to speak to in connection with a distraction burglary in Uttoxeter last month. The incident took place at the BP Petrol Station in Derby Road, Uttoxeter at around 8.45am on Wednesday, February 13. The images, which have been released by the force, show a male and a female who were on the petrol station premises at the time.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “The woman has distracted staff in the retail premises whilst the male has then accessed the private area where only staff members are permitted and has stolen property from within before they left the premises.

Officers would like to speak to the female and male pictured, as they could have information which may assist with their enquiries.”

Anyone with any information about the whereabouts of either of these people pictured, can contact Staffordshire Police in a number of different ways including: by calling the force’s non-emergency number of 101, by sending a private message through the force’s Facebook page, or by sending a direct message through the force’s twitter page.

Anyone contacting the police about this incident is asked to quote the reference number FZ/11411/2019 and the name of the officer in the case PC 26663 Simon JEVONS, in any correspondence.

People can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

STAFFORDSHIRE Police is urging residents to be aware of distraction burglaries.

Advice being given to residents by Staffordshire Police includes:

Protect yourself and your neighbours

If you’re not sure who is at your door, don’t open it

Check the identity of the caller by calling the company they claim to be from e.g. council, gas, electricity, water companies

Do not use telephone numbers provided by the caller, as they may be bogus

Don’t keep large quantities of cash at home, put it in the bank where it is safe

Keep doors locked and windows secure at all time

Ensure that if you do let somebody into your home, you close the door behind them – distraction burglars often work in teams, where one will distract you whilst others sneak in through the insecure door

If someone asks for your help (needs to make a telephone call, lost a ball in your garden, needs a drink or pen and paper) refer them to a younger neighbour or assist them through a closed door or even call a friend or neighbour to come and help

If you suspect a bogus caller is at your door, call 999 immediately.
