A PLAQUE will be installed at a village pub, recognising public funds used to save it. The plaque was presented in the same week the pub received a five-star food hygiene rating. And the group behind The Shrewsbury Arms in Kingstone is to hold its AGM tonight (Wednesday).
Cllr Greg Hall from East Staffordshire Borough Council presented the plaque on Friday 17th January.
It records the grant funding put towards the regeneration of the pub from the ESBC Neighbourhood Fund.
The failing pub was taken over by the Kingstone Community Society after a successful bid to have it listed as an Asset of Community Value in 2018.
The group bought The Shrewsbury Arms at auction in April last year and the pub reopened in September.
Now a vital part of village life, the pub is run by experience tenants and hosts a variety of community groups and events.
The Shrewsbury Arms was one of around 30 projects to receive grants during the three-year Neighbourhood Fund offered by ESBC.
Chairman of Kingstone Community Society, Jonny Grey, said: “Only with the help and grant support of ESBC was Kingstone Community Society able to succeed in rescuing this important village asset which now enables participation in social, cultural and leisure activities by the whole community.
“It is much more than a pub.”
The village is also celebrating after food hygiene inspectors visited The Shrewsbury Arms on 3rd January and awarded the pub a top score of five stars.
The inspection report is available now at www.ratemyplace.org.uk.
The Kingstone Community Society will hold its AGM this evening (Wednesday 22nd January).
