AN ONLINE quiz for children has been launched to help map Uttoxeter’s wildlife. The ‘Covid-19 lock down garden quiz’ was launched last week by Uttoxeter Nature Recovery Network (UNRN). The entrant with the highest score could win a deluxe hedgehog house for their school or care facility.
The UNRN is a Uttoxeter Town Council initiative aimed at helping nature thrive in the town and is led by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Carolyn Green and volunteers including Dave Trenery. Cllr Green said: “We are trying to collect information in our area about the insects, birds, trees, small wild animals and flowers you see, so we can build our maps of these species across Uttoxeter.
“Please help us by looking outside near to where you live. You may like to take an adult from your family to help you. You could win a premier deluxe hedgehog house for your school or care facility. We are looking for the answer with the highest score.”
Posing a series of questions about wildlife, nature and habitat, the quiz encourages youngsters to explore their gardens and identify creatures, insects and plants. The quiz will run online until mid-May at: https://forms.gle/rSrGzDkBUwmLfJnd8
The network conducted a town-wide consultation last month, gathering information and opinion on ways to improve habitat and help wildlife in Uttoxeter and beyond. Feedback from the consultation is expected to be discussed at the next full meeting of Uttoxeter Town Council which will take place in May.
