Member axed after six-month absence will seek re-election
A CHEADLE town councillor who was kicked off the authority after failing to attend a single meeting in six months has vowed to stand for re-election.
Abigail Wilkinson was chosen to represent the North East ward of the town at elections in 2015.
But she has showed up to less than a quarter of meetings since then and none of a possible 11 since the council’s AGM in May.
The UKIP councillor’s attendance record has triggered automatic exclusion and the seat was formally declared vacant at a meeting on Monday night.
It will now be formally advertised and could lead to a co-option. But at least 10 requests for a vote would spark a by-election – at a cost to taxpayers of up to £4,000.
And Ms Wilkinson, who opened a beauty salon in Cheadle High Street earlier this year, has insisted she would put her name forward once more.
