DEVELOPERS behind a residential scheme at a former pub near Cheadle could be sent back to the drawing board.
Outline permission to build five houses at the Crown Inn at Tean Road, Mobberley was granted in 2016.
But details of the scheme, which have now been submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, have failed to win the approval of planning officers.
They say the proposal would be harmful to the character and appearance of the area and have called for a ‘fundamental rethink’.
AJ Developments want to demolish the former pub and build two pairs of semi-detached houses along with a detached property on a triangular parcel of land next to the main A522 road linking Cheadle and Tean.
Town councillors raised no objection to the scheme, but district council officers have described it as a ‘disappointing response’ to the rural context of the site.
