The Leek & District Show society has submitted a licence application to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) to hold their annual event on Dunwood Fields on Leek Road, just outside of Leek in Longsdon – instead of hosting it at the regular venue of Birchall Playing Fields in Leek.
A spokesman for the Leek Show committee said: “Signs are appearing along Leek Road at Dunwood confirming that an application has been lodged with SMDC for a licence to hold the annual Leek Show on land alongside the Leek to Endon road.
“Following two years, when the Birchall site was not available, a proposition to move the event to Dunwood was unanimously agreed at the latest meeting of the Show Society.”
Show Chairman, Eddie Sims, continued: “The site allows us to have all the usual events on one field including parking which has always been a problem with the town site.
“Our preliminary discussions with Highways and the local Police have been helpful with our forward planning and we now need approval from the local authority for licencing and entertainment activities.”
Mr Sims added: “We are pleased that our major sponsors are fully behind us, and we are now looking for support from local businesses and talented individuals.”
A consultation period will now commence for stakeholder input before a Safety Advisory Group is convened, if necessary.
