A THEME park in the Moorlands has teamed up with a best-selling author and television comedian to start on a project that will see his book characters come to life across the park in Spring 2020. Alton Towers Resort has announced it has partnered up with children's writer David Walliams to incorporate the themes of many of the stories he has written for youngsters over the past few years. The company revealed that the project would be around the Cloud Cuckoo Land area of the theme park but is keeping it's cards close to it's chest on any further information.
However, it did state that its ‘Merlin Magic Making’ creation team had been liaising with Walliams and publishers HarperCollins Children’s Books for the last two years to develop a “unique headline attraction.”
Alton Towers said that nearly 100 specialists had been working on the project and that construction had started earlier this year.
David Walliams became a household name starring alongside Matt Lucas in comedy sketch show Little Britain in the early 2000s before going on to publish 12 children’s novels, selling over 33 million copies of these stories worldwide.
Walliams said: “It’s a huge thrill for some of my favourite characters to be getting their own attractions at Alton Towers.
“I can’t wait to experience them for myself, and from all the work that has gone in I think people are going to love it.
“All will be revealed next year.”
Alton Towers marketing director James Walker said: “We are delighted to be able to announce our partnership with David Walliams on what promises to be a hugely exciting addition to Alton Towers Resort in 2020.
“David’s books have really captured the imagination of Britain’s children and their families.
“So it’s a huge honour to be working with David on this fabulous collaboration for 2020, the year in which we celebrate our 40th birthday as the nation’s favourite theme park.”
