A self-confessed ‘Mr Grumpy’ is set to play Santa at his local pub this Christmas – all in aid of raising cash for two charities.
Rob Ratcliffe, aged 47 of Leek, has been roped into dressing up as the festive character by fellow pub goers at his local of the Fountain Inn in Leek.
Rob will be donning the big red suit on Christmas Day itself when the pub, which is situated on the same named street, will be open for its regulars to have a festive get-together.
Rob said: “I was set up to be Santa by a few regulars and my girlfriend Rosie.
“I’m not overly keen on Christmas to be honest – I’m a bit grumpy.”
The two charities which Rob is raising funds for are the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and Combat Stress Veteran’s Mental Health Charity.
So far the ex-serviceman has raised £150 and anyone wishing to help increase that cash pot can do so by leaving donations behind the bar at the Fountain.
Rob said: “I’d like to thank the people who have already donated and any further donations can be left with landlord Guy.
“I have chosen these two charities as they deserve as much money as possible.
“Especially Combat Stress which is a deserving charity helping ex-forces get much needed support to deal with issues with PTSD.
“I was in the army many years ago. I joined when I was 17 and enlisted in the Royal Corps of Transport.”
