A Moorlands cyclist has ridden the equivalent height of Mount Everest to raise money for charity.

Josh Davis, from Cheadle, cycled up Foxt Bank 36 times for 14 hours on Saturday, July 16, to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

He did this energetic challenge as part of ‘Everesting’ which is a concept of picking any hill, anywhere in the world and ride repeats of it, with no time limits, until you climb 29,028 feet, the equivalent height of Mount Everest.

Josh started this climb at Hetty’s Tea Shop and ended all the way up at Ipstones edge.

Hetty’s Tea Room and The Fox and Goose also put out collection jars for Josh so passersby, on the day, could donate.

Josh told Times & Echo: “I did some training in Italy for over a week, cycling with fellow cyclists up the Dolomites.

I had a target of raising £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society but have managed to raise around £1,700, including cash donations.

I feel really happy to have raised so much by doing this challenge.

I have a family member with Alzheimer’s so the cause is pretty close to home and I’m really happy with how it’s turned out.”

Josh also told us about the support that he had received from the residents of Foxt Village.

He said: “The support from the village has been absolutely amazing.

They were all cheering me on from their homes and they had little snack packs on the roadside for us to have if and when we needed it.

They were amazing.”

Emma Titterton, who lives in Foxt, said: “Foxt Village was fabulous in their support of Josh, cheering him on and leaving drinks.

As I live in Foxt, I know just how steep Foxt Bank is and walking just the once is quite a feat, let alone cycling up and down 36 times, for over 14 hours on such a hot day.

Josh is a totally inspirational young man and we’re all super proud of him.”
