Another load of much-needed aid supplies are heading their way from the Moorlands to those affected by war-torn Ukraine.
The ‘Leek and Cheddleton Aid Support for Ukraine’ is continuing to collect donations at the Leek Town Council owned Bank House in St Edward Street, Leek.
The project is being run by a band of volunteers from within the community led by councillor Roy Molson.
A spokesman for the aid group said: “Another load of medical supplies and food has started its journey to Zamosc on the Polish Ukraine border for distribution to the Ukrainian military fighting for freedom.”
The Leek project is continuing to collect on Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am and 1pm.
Items which are currently accepted include: baby food, equipment, nappies, clothes; medication, medical equipment, bandages, tourniquets; non perishable food (tins, pasta etc); drinking water; pet food and treats; and toiletries.
The local aid campaign is also on the look out for shoes for a Ukrainian family who arrived in UK recently.
The appeal is for men’s shoes size 10, and women’s shoes size 38 and 35.
As well as being a drop-off point for the various donations, The Leek and Cheddleton Aid Support for Ukraine is currently carrying out a fundraising campaign to raise funds to purchase a number of ambulances to be driven out to help those affected by the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
As of yesterday (Tuesday, April 26) a total of £1,525 had been raised of the £10,000 target on the groups’ online fundraising page.
Anyone wishing to donate can do so by going online to: www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/leek-and-cheddleton-aid-support-for-ukraine-1.
