Vandals have been ripping up safety flooring from underneath play equipment in the Moorlands.
The damage was caused to the matting which lays underneath the zip wire at Hammersley Hayes in Cheadle.
It is understood that the damage was caused on Tuesday, June 2.
Cheadle resident Paul Elliot, who spotted the damage, told the Times & Echo: “I was shocked as it hasn’t happened before.
“Yes you get no end of rubbish left around, even though there is a bin.
“Speaking of bins, a couple of years ago, one was ripped out which had been attached to the concrete and set on fire.
“They would of had to be strong or a few people to move it to where they set fire to it.
“I feel that because the area is out of sight it’s easily targeted.”
Your Housing Group maintains the area in which the zip wire is situated. A spokesman said: “We have inspected the site and there is damage to the seal between the pieces of flooring.
“We are arranging for our specialist contractor to repair the damage as soon as possible.”
The spokesman added: “The Zip Wire remains out of order due to the current Covid-19 restrictions.”
Cheadle councillor Jamie Evans said of the damaged piece of play equipment: “This is just mindless vandalism.
“I understand people are bored with what’s going on but doesn’t give them any right to damage equipment that children will get a lot of use and joy using.
“I am disgusted by the actions of a few mindless vandals.”
