Lockdown raffle raises £2k

By timesecholife on in All News, Uttoxeter news

A FACEBOOK raffle has raised more than £2,000 for Cancer Research UK.

The lockdown fund-raiser included 92 prizes donated by local businesses – many of which had been forced to close or limit operations under Covid-19 restrictions.

The draw for the raffle took place on Sunday, March 28. James Clark teamed up with his partner David Young, brother Thomas and mum Debbie, to organise the raffle after plans for a fun day were scuppered by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The family decided to raise money for Cancer Research UK after Debbie was diagnosed with cancer in September 2019. Their Facebook fund-raiser totalled £2,075.

James said: “We are all absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of support we have received for such a great and personal cause. It means the world to us to know we have helped Cancer Research take more steps into finding a cure for cancer.

“We cannot thank the businesses and people that have donated in such a difficult time because without them this couldn’t have gone ahead. We are proud to live in such a positive and generous community.

“The amount we raised is absolutely fantastic and we didn’t expect the response we had so once again thank you so much to everybody involved, and congratulations to all of the winners.”

• Happy Easter to Luan, Ava and Maisie Inskip, who won an Easter egg bundle on the charity raffle. And Charlotte Harvey, winner of vouchers for the White Hart, worth £50.
