This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On Event for Cheadle had set to take place this Saturday (November 21).
It would have included the ever-popular Team Cheadle Victorian Christmas event which would have seen thousands of people visiting the town centre to join in on the festivities.
However alike to so many community extravaganzas across the nation, this year’s public event to open the Christmas period in Cheadle has been cancelled due to the nation’s ongoing battle with Covid-19.
However, the team behind organising Cheadle’s festivities have come up with another idea to hopefully get the entire community of Cheadle involved.
Team Cheadle will be videoing the lights being turned on at 5pm on Saturday, and sharing the live stream via their Facebook page. The team are also inviting residents across the town to also switch on their own festive illuminations in and on their houses at the same time so that the community is still sharing the experience of illuminating the town together.
This virtual event has been called ‘Go Cheadle Glow’ by Team Cheadle.
A spokesperson from Team Cheadle said: “The lights switch-on is our main calendar event and we were all very disheartened when we realised it wouldn’t go ahead this year.
“We then realised that other people might be feeling the same way, so we hope that this online event will help make everyone feel a little better during lockdown.”
Residents will be able to view the video at https://www.facebook.com/TeamCheadle/ and Team Cheadle are asking residents to send in their own illuminating pictures and videos to be used for a compilation video for ‘Go Cheadle Glow’. They can be sent via the Team Cheadle Facebook page or emailed to teamcheadlestaffs@gmail.com.
We, at the Times & Echo, would also love to see your illuminating Cheadle pictures for a special picture feature in next week’s paper, so please also email your pictures to news@timesandecho.co.uk.
