Youngsters are being invited to get their skates on – or grab their skateboard, scooter or bike – to take part in a competition in the Moorlands this weekend.
A ‘Cheadle Parks Trix’ competition will be taking place at the skate park in Tean Road Recreation Ground in Cheadle on Saturday (August 21).
Starting at 3pm, youngsters are being invited to register to take part in the contest on the day and there are several categories: under eight’s, beginners, amateur and pro.
The event has been organised by 15-year-old Lewis Hide in conjunction with the Cheadle Town Council’s Community Reassurance programme which is currently taking place at the rec.
Participants are being encouraged to wear helmets and protective pads, and St John’s Ambulance will be in attendance during the event.
Cheadle Town Mayor Sue Walley will be presenting medals to the winners, medals which she has paid for out of her Mayor’s Allowance.
Town councillor Kate Martin, who is chair of the parks committee, said: “We are looking forward to this event.
“I am really impressed that Lewis has organised this, it shows good youth participation and I am also really pleased that our town mayor is supplying medals for it through her mayor’s fund.
“This event just shows the positivity of having a community reassurance programme at the rec, it is helping to bring the community together to organise events.”
