Laura’s high-flying plan for hospice

By timesecholife on in All News, Community News

A WORKPLACE drive to raise funds for a children's hospice has inspired a young woman to fulfil a life-long ambition. Adventurous Laura Whitworth, 24, is planning to tick a skydive off her bucket list – and raise funds for the Donna Louise Hospice at the same time. Laura, who works at the Uttoxeter branch of Leek United Building Society, is planning to leap from a plane this weekend in a bid to boost funds for the hospice.

She will be joined by pals Abi Bowden and Tim Toft for the skydive on Saturday, May 11.

Laura, who recently moved to Thorley Drive in Cheadle, said: “I have never done anything like this before but I like to think of myself as an adventure lover and an adrenalin junkie.

“It’s always been on my bucket list to do.

“I’ve been to Go Ape before but that’s as extreme as it goes.”

The Donna Louise is one of Leek United’s chosen charities and workers at the Uttoxeter branch have already raised around £500 for the hospice this year.

Laura, who was diagnosed as a type one diabetic at the age of four, added: “I’m really excited and looking forward to it at the moment.

“I think the fear will hit me when I’m up in the air.

“I’d be really grateful for any donations big or small, I think it’s an amazing cause and the hospice relies on donations and events like this to keep themselves running.

“If anyone would like to donate, they can either pop into the Uttoxeter branch of Leek United Building Society in Market Place or visit my justgiving page at: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/laurawhitworth2.”

Chris Belyavin, relationship manager at The Donna Louise, said: “I’d like to say a big thank you to Laura, and wish her lots of luck as she takes on this huge challenge.

“Not only is she ticking off an item from her bucket list, she’s also raising money for the local children and young people, and their families, who rely on the hospice.

“Laura and her colleagues at Leek United are great supporters of The Donna Louise and work really hard to raise money for the hospice.

“We rely almost entirely on the support of the local community to enable us to offer a range of care and support services, without people like Laura, and supporters like Leek United, we simply wouldn’t be able to offer the services we currently do.”
