A local history group is on the look out for answers surrounding a town’s main car park.

A spokesman for the Historical Cheadle Facebook page has posted this old picture of Tape Street Car Park and stated: “As the car park is something of a hot topic, I thought I’d address one of the myths.

Was the car park given to the people of Cheadle?”

They added: “I’ll be honest and say it seems very unlikely, but people say it so often I’d be interested to know where it came from.

My understanding is that the Greyhound Field was brought by the Cheadle Rural District Council, from the brewery who owned the Greyhound pub.”

DO YOU know the history of the main car park in Cheadle? Email us at news@timesandecho.co.uk.

  • My family owned Lees Butchers in the High Street. There was a field behind the shop and this was sold to the council and then became the car park. I hope this helps.
