Police and fire staff are investigating the cause of a fire which saw a man jump from the window of a burning property in the Moorlands. The incident happened before 9pm last night (Thursday, June 16) in High Street, Cheadle.
Police and fire staff are investigating the cause of a fire which saw a man jump from the window of a burning property in the Moorlands.
The incident happened before 9pm last night (Thursday, June 16) in High Street, Cheadle.
The town centre was blocked off for some time while emergency services dealt with the incident.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a fire at a property and a patient having jumped from a window on High Street, Cheadle at 8.53pm last night.
“One ambulance, a paramedic officer, the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car and two BASICS doctors attended the scene.
“On arrival we discovered one male patient who was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further assessment.”
A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “Police were called to reports of a fire at a flat on High Street, Cheadle, at 8.15pm last night (Thursday, June 16).
“Officers attended, alongside Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service.
“A man was taken to hospital with injuries to his wrists as he tried to escape the fire.
“An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.”
A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service added: “Firefighters attended the scene of a flat fire in Cheadle yesterday (Thursday, June 16).
“At 8.50pm, crews from Longton and Cheadle were called to an address near Prince George Street in Cheadle, following reports of a flat which was well-alight.
“Firefighters attended alongside colleagues from Staffordshire Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service.
“A man was transported to hospital by land ambulance after suffering injuries when leaving the property.
“Four breathing apparatus and hose reel jets were used to extinguish the blaze by 9.15pm.
“Crews conducted a search of all three floors of the building and isolated the electric supply to ensure the area was safe.
“An investigation into the cause is ongoing alongside Staffordshire Police.”
