Staffordshire County Council has asked external contractors who run a recycling facility in the Moorlands to look into a resident’s complaint after they claimed they experienced verbal abuse during a visit.
The community member, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Times & Echo he had been visiting Cheadle Recycling Centre off New Haden Road on February 27 at around midday when the incident occurred.
Staffordshire County Council employs external contractors to run the facility.
The resident said: “Yet again, I go to use the local waste recycling centre and yet again I was met with abuse and vulgar language.
“The general gist down there is if you are female and fit we will help you – if you’re not we will stand watching you struggle and then moan about you.”
He added: “They didn’t care about my vehicle and I was labelled an arsehole for simply being there.
“There was a couple of people who were as shocked as me and promised if I made a complaint they would back me up.”
In response, Simon Tagg, Cabinet Member for Environment, Infrastructure and Climate Change at Staffordshire County Council said: “The county council’s recycling centres are currently run by an external contractor.
“We expect the highest levels of customer service from centre staff and have asked the contractor to investigate the matter to see if any action is necessary.”
