RESIDENTS are being put on red alert after a dramatic surge in the number of deliberate fires in Cheadle.
Incidents in the town quadrupled in the last 12 months, according to figures revealed exclusively to the Times and Echo.
And fire officers have this week called on members of the public to be vigilant in a bid to reverse what they see as a worrying trend.
A list of call-outs issued by Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service reveals crews in Cheadle dealt with 13 deliberate fires last year – compared to just three the year before.
The figures contribute to a total of 39 deliberate fires in areas covered by crews in Uttoxeter, Ipstones and Cheadle during 2017, compared to just nine the year before.
