FAMILIES in Cheadle will be in for a special treat when the last airworthy Lancaster bomber in the UK flies over the town on Carnival Day.
Organisers of the event have confirmed the iconic plane will perform a fly-past above Tean Road Recreation Ground on Saturday, July 7.
It ties in with a theme for the carnival, which returns to Cheadle this summer after an absence of 20 years by paying tribute to soldiers who fought in both world wars.
Tim Cliffe, chairman of the carnival committee, said: “We had news last week that the Lancaster will be doing a fly-past of the carnival site.
“It’s very special because it’s the last airworthy Lancaster in the UK and there are only two in the world these days.
