SUSPECTED THIEVES CRASHED INTO ENTRANCE GATES
SUSPECTED thieves crashed into entrance gates at Uttoxeter racecourse after a high speed chase across the Staffordshire Moorlands.
Police pursed a blue Audi A3 saloon from Stoke-on-Trent to Uttoxeter in less than half an hour.
Two men inside the car have since been arrested and were still in police custody at the time of going to press.
Officers were called at around 11.35pm on Monday, September 18 to a suspected car theft in Bucknall Road, Stoke-on-Trent.
Two officers in a car chased the stolen Audi from Bucknall to Werrington Road and Ash Bank Road before heading to Cellarhead where the vehicle ran a red light and continued on to Kingsley Road.
The Audi then turned at a cross roads at the crest of the bank and travelled through Dilhorne to Forsbrook where it turned into Draycott Old Road.
At the junction, the Audi turned into Uttoxeter Road and was driven along the A521 to Upper Tean where it turned onto Hollington Road.
The alleged thieves – a 20-year-old and a 22-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent – continued through Hollington to Rocester where they turned right at a roundabout near to the JCB World Headquarters.
The pair sped to Uttoxeter, going straight over the roundabout on the A50 and heading into Cheadle Road before driving through the town towards the racecourse.
The car crashed into gates at the entrance to the racecourse just after midnight. The two men inside ran across fields in an attempt to avoid capture.
The pursuing officers caught up with them nearby and both men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.
The whole chase lasted just over 25 minutes.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact police on 101 or telephone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
