HERITAGE CENTRE GOES GOTHIC

NEW EXHIBITION UNVEILED

ORGANISERS of a heritage centre in Cheadle are set to unveil a new exhibition.
The Discovery Centre display will be an exploration of ‘Gothic’ and will look at both good and evil connotations of the word.
The Goths were the destroyers of Roman civilisation but they became lost in the mists of time and even their language died out.
But they left a magnificent heritage throughout Europe of beautiful Gothic churches from the medieval period.
The Gothic Revival, which started with AWN Pugin, led to countless buildings from his Palace of Westminster to the Tribune Building in Chicago and, of course, Pugin’s Gem here in Cheadle – regarded as one of the world’s finest buildings and in the top 20 of England’s 1,000 best churches.
The exhibition goes on display at the Discovery Centre, Lulworth House, in High Street, from September 3.
