GP practices and health bosses are working ‘at pace’ to overcome ‘several logistical challenges’ to establish a Covid-19 vaccination centre in Uttoxeter.
MP for Uttoxeter, Kate Griffiths, highlighted concern over the roll-out to people in the town last week, after many had no option but to travel to Burton for the jab.
Accountable Officer for Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), Marcus Warnes, assured the MP in a letter, that NHS teams were working hard to provide the vaccine closer to home.
Mr Warnes said: “The CCG is currently working with local GPs in Uttoxeter who are working hard to establish a vaccination centre in Uttoxeter. There are several logistical challenges that come with setting up a vaccination centre and we are working though these at pace. We are grateful for the ongoing patience from local residents, as we recognise the hope this vaccine brings for people.
“All practices in Staffordshire stepped up to this challenge and quickly adopted the approach which is of great credit to them. All staff across the Primary Care Networks (PCNs), which are local groups of GP practices in Staffordshire who have worked tirelessly to prepare for the vaccine over the past weeks and are truly committed to deliver the vaccination to as many eligible people as possible.
“We’d like to emphasise that this is the biggest vaccination programme the NHS has ever undertaken and will be a gradual roll out over the coming weeks and months, as the supply of vaccine increases. It is a huge challenge, and there will be bumps in the road. NHS staff are doing an incredible job to deliver what it is the largest vaccination programme in our history, at the same time as continuing to be there for everyone who needs care.”
