A CHARITY shop employee is shaving his head next month in aid of a cause that helps children who suffer with mental health illness. Aaron Pointer from Uttoxeter’s Barnardo’s branch is letting his locks go as part of the charity’s fund-raising season in aid of SOLAR, the specialist service for kids with mental health difficulties. Fellow staff members and volunteers at the charity shop are carrying out other activities to bring in further funds for the charity.
A Guess The Bear competition is running throughout July and August and they will be hosting car washes to help boost funds.
Aaron, who lives in Blythe Bridge, has worked at the store for two-and-a-half years and came up with the idea of a head-shave while the team were brainstorming ideas of what staff could do earlier in the year, taking inspiration from his friend who once shaved his head for his friend who had cancer.
The 32-year-old said: “Some children in the very formative years of childhood suffer with mental health difficulties.
“There should be people who are there to help guide them through it, and SOLAR is the charity that does that.”
The Uttoxeter Barnardo’s branch has been open for over four years and now employs six people with over 20 volunteers also helping out.
The branch is hoping to raise £1,000 and, in total, have already gathered £850.
Those who wish to donate to the cause can drop money in the donation boxes, located in the shop which is situated on the Maltings, opposite Asda. Aaron will be having his head shaved at 3pm on August 7 at the charity shop.
