A young boy in the Moorlands who has been growing his hair for almost two years – has had the long locks all cut off for charity.
Faris Edge, aged nine of Leek, set the challenge himself to help the Little Princess Trust – which makes wigs from donated hair for young people with illness.
Faris told the Leek & Moorlands Echo: “I decided to grow my hair for the Little Princess Trust in August 2020 because I just wanted to help people.”
During his hair-growing challenge, Faris has also been raising money for charity including for Mary’s Meals – a charity which provides “chronically hungry children with one meal every school day, encouraging education that can lift them out of poverty in later life.”
Last Thursday (June 2), Faris visited Amy at Salon 7 in Russell Street, Leek for the special hair cut.
He had four plaits cut off, two measuring nine inches, and two measuring ten inches – all ideal lengths to be sent off to the Little Princess Trust to be used to make wigs.
Faris’ mum Marie Edge said: “We had tears before and afterwards but I think it was a mixture of emotions, bless him.
“He loves his new hair cut now though.”
Faris has raised an amazing £260 which is set to be split between the charity Mary’s Meals and his school of St Mary’s in Leek.
Marie added: “Faris also managed to get some sponsors for the Princess Trust but we are just waiting on getting the money in for that, but we are hoping that it will be around £50.
“Faris has such a big heart, I couldn’t be prouder of him.”
