A serving police officer has been found guilty of assault whilst off-duty. The incident happened in Blythe Bridge in October 2021, and the Staffordshire police officer concerned was found guilty last week.

The incident happened in Blythe Bridge in October 2021, and the Staffordshire police officer concerned was found guilty last week.

PC Colin Gay has been fined £500 and ordered to pay £100 compensation, a £50 victim surcharged and £1,000 costs.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “A serving Staffordshire Police officer has been found guilty of common assault following an incident when he was off-duty.
“PC Colin Gay, 49, was found guilty at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (July 7) following a two-day trial. He had denied common assault at an earlier hearing.
“It follows an incident in Blythe Bridge in October 2021.
“He has been fined £500 and ordered to pay £100 compensation, a £50 victim surcharged and £1,000 costs.”
Assistant Chief Constable Justin Bibby said: “The high standards we expect from our officers apply equally when they are off duty.
“PC Gay’s actions were unacceptable.
“Misconduct proceedings will now take place following the conclusion of criminal proceedings.”
